CCCS Athletic Association Mission Statement
Corpus Christi Athletic Association in the spirit of competition and respect, embraces athletic competition under the CYO rules for the benefit of the physical and emotional well being of the students of Corpus Christi School and Corpus Christi Parish. We extend Christian hospitality to our guests and pledge our participation in the spirit of fair play.
Athletics at CCCS
Corpus Christi Catholic School offers a number of opportunities for our students to wear the green and gold and represent the Cougars. We participate in several sports through the Harrisburg Diocese CYO and the Chambersburg Recreation Department, as well as school clubs.
Soccer
SOCCER
Elementary students can begin representing the Cougars through coed recreational soccer sponsored by the Chambersburg Recreation Department.
Grades: Kindergarten through Grade 5
Teams: K–1, Grades 2–3, and Grades 4–5
Seasons: Fall and spring
Practices: One evening per week
Games: Saturdays at Memorial Park in Chambersburg
Registration information is shared with families and available online as each season approaches. The CCCS soccer coordinator organizes registration, team rosters, and jersey distribution with volunteer coaches.
Basketball
Corpus Christi students have multiple opportunities to play basketball during the winter season.
4th-5th grade
Boys and girls in Grades 4–5 may participate in basketball through the Chambersburg Recreation Department when there is sufficient interest to form Corpus Christi teams. Practices are typically held once each week, with games scheduled one evening each week at the Chambersburg Recreation Center.
6th-8th grade
Middle-school students may participate on boys’ or girls’ basketball teams in the Harrisburg Diocese CYO league. CYO basketball offers a more competitive experience with travel throughout the diocese. Eligible participants include Corpus Christi students and qualifying middle-school students active in Corpus Christi Parish and its CCD program. Practices are typically held two to three times each week. Games are generally scheduled on weekends during the winter season. Registration information is shared through the school and CCD program in the fall.
Cheerleading
Corpus Christi offers cheerleading for students in Grades 2–8.
Cheerleaders practice twice each week and support Cougar basketball teams at CYO home games. The team may also participate in school and community events, including the annual pep rally.
Fall sign-up information is shared through the school.
Development
CCCS also offers several developmental opportunities for students:
Cross-country club:
Middle-school students can join the cross-country club to build endurance, develop running skills, and track personal progress. The program includes after-school practices, course-running opportunities, and timed-mile goals at the beginning and end of the season.
Open Gyms
Students in Grades 3–8 may participate in basketball and cheerleading open gyms during the summer and fall. Open gyms are casual, skill-focused opportunities that emphasize fundamentals, drills, and preparation for the upcoming season.
CCCS Athletic Association
The Corpus Christi Catholic School Athletic Association is coordinated by parent volunteers in partnership with the school’s Athletic Facilitator. Together, they help organize teams and coaches, maintain uniforms and equipment, and support student-athletes throughout the year. The Athletic Association hosts two annual fundraisers: a winter raffle and the spring Golf Classic. Proceeds support uniforms, equipment, and other athletic-program needs.
Coaches are always needed! Our Cougar teams can’t play without our volunteer coaches. Clearances are required to coach (more information is available on the diocesan website). If you are interested in lending your time and talents to any of our teams, please contact CCCS athletic facilitator Laura Doty (LDoty@ccschambersburg.org)
COACHES & VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Our Cougar teams cannot play without volunteer coaches and helpers. Coaches must complete all required clearances before serving with student-athletes. Interested in coaching or volunteering? (more information is available on the diocesan website). If you are interested in lending your time and talents to any of our teams, please contact CCCS athletic facilitator Laura Doty (LDoty@ccschambersburg.org)
ATHLETICS PRAYER
Father in Heaven, bless our competition. May we participate with respect for one another in the spirit of fair play. Empowered by Your Holy Spirit may players, coaches, and fans embrace Christian hospitality toward one another. As members of the Corpus Christi community, may we always do our best with enthusiasm - in this game and in the game of life. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
